So I'm finally going to write about what happened at site and IST before the big rafting trip.
Had to slap a cow for drinking out of my jerrican one day, then a few days had to beat a cow with my basin to get him/her from drinking from MY tank.
There was a girlfight at school one day and I missed it! One of the Form 2 girls was being offensive (again) and got clobbered by first one girl and then half of the school.
After getting harassed by a creepy dude one Sunday at the weekly soccer match in the village, I decided to brave it again the next week; it's a good thing I went because during the game I had to stop a small boy from choking a smaller girl with part of a plastic bag. Everyone around was just watching and letting it happen. Gai!
Term One ended on April 4 and Term Two starts on May 8, so I still have a couple more weeks of just hanging out and getting over this awful cough.
Dyed my hair back to brown because I was getting sick of the roots. It came out reddish at first (eek!) but then faded to light brown.
Saw 2 new (non-bootleg!) movies: 300 and Dreamgirls.
IST was fun, boring, interesting, and abysmal. We were all really excited to see eachother on Monday night. Then the sessions we had were kinda blah. One really interesting thing we (math/sci teachers) did was to visit WOFAK, Women Fighting AIDS in Kenya, and talk about what they do there.
Also during IST there was a lil contest to see who could ask the most ridiculous questions during our sessions.
Tuesday and Wednesday were blah, then Thursday night a bunch of us went out for Mexican and then salsa dancing. Mike and I (mostly Mike) made up a "carne samosa" dance. Kenli dragged me out on the dance floor later and spun me around waaay too fast.
Friday was blah because it was raining and we (Katie and I) couldn't make it to the giant flea market for some good ol' second-hand clothes. Booo. Instead we went back to pseudo-Mexican restaurant and dipped chapati in salsa instead of spending more money on an actual meal.
Did I already mention that I got a new phone??
Sorry if this is completely all over the place chronologically. I've had to ask about 5 times what day it is.
Seems like I got sick once I got back to bathing regularly and lost my protective layer of dirt and stuff.
Oh during rafting I asked the guide is the scale for rating rapids was linear or logarithmic and he had no idea what I was talking about so I gave a mini math lesson on the raft. It was fun.
The showers at the campsite were awesome: they were open on one side so you could see the Nile while showering!
Crap I gotta go now. Need to buy new shoes because somewhere in my travels (across borders and in perhaps thousands of icky matatus) over the last week I misplaced 2 pairs.
Still haven't put up pictures from Jan-Mar but I will try and do it soon!!
