not so good

Peace Corps came to visit my site last week. The APCD for education looked at my house and then observed a lesson. It was Form 1 physics and the students behaved worse than usual. Some didn't even have the right books out. Geez.
Then there's the issue of my house... apparently PC thinks I'm living too rough. Won't get into all the details (especially since I don't know if I'm going back or not) but I'm getting a well-deserved break for a few days staying at another PCV's house. With electricity and running water. Oh boy.

Have you ever played Musical Chairs with 20+ people in a 14-passenger van? I have. It's not as fun as it may sound. Add a puking kid on your lap and imagine my enthusiasm.

I'm just trying to look forward to the 4th of July celebration in a couple weeks. Maybe I'll have a house by then. Maybe not. Hakuna shida... matatizo nimezoea.

We finally got the "Richard Gere" video collection to work this past weekend so we watched Pretty Woman, Shall We Dance, the Jackal, Dr. T and the Women, Chicago, Bee Season, and Unfaithful.

I sat in a few lessons at a deaf school yesterday. The kids were so excited to have 2 Wazungu there! It was adorable. Then they were all asking about me later. I have a sign name now (make the letter K and tap the side of mouth). So much easier to do that than finger-spell my name.

It's funny to look at the web sites that Kenyans go to...

Hopefully by next post I will know what's going on.

Happy Summer!

unicorns
forgot to mention the ridiculous debate that Cait and I had about unicorns... I said that they aren't born with the horn, that it grows later like a cow's or goat's but we'll never know because Noah forgot to put them on the ark...C said my knowledge of birthing habits of mythological creatures was probably not correct and that unicorns still exist and then there was some shouting. The End. -LN

busy day
I've got big plans for today. Gonna make spaghetti and meat sauce for lunch, bathe, then sing and dance around the house. In that order. I hope there's time to get everything done!! Ninakupenda. -LN

site change
It's official: I'm moving tomorrow. Have to say goodbye to my kids that I hate to love and then meet a new batch of terrors that I'll hopefully stay with for a year and a half. I want to bring one of the kittens to the new house, but I'm not sure how she'd like the journey. The kitten is much smaller than a chicken so it shouldn't be an issue to the driver. Gonna try again to fall asleep. -LN

Hello
Hi Ellen-Its Mrs. Debbie (Jeff Smietanas Mom). We see you have relocated-the PC worked pretty quick on getting you out of your home and school. Hope your new place is an improvement. We love reading your journal and all that is going on. It makes us feel not so far away from Africa. We talked to Jeff 2 weeks ago and he sounded great. My husband and son-in-law leave July 28th to go and visit for 12 days and they are soooo excited. If you see Jeff at the July 4th party give him a big hug from his Mom. Keep posting. Take care, Mrs. Debbie
